From microcontrollers to high-performance computing in the automotive industry
Katrin Matthes
Lead Software Technologist, Ampère/Renault

Historically, electrical/electronic (E/E) architectures in the automotive industry have consisted of dozens of single-function microcontrollers linked by specific CAN-type buses. The Software Defined Vehicle is bringing about a transformation comparable to what happened in mobile telephony after the introduction of the iPhone in 2007. E/E and software architectures are evolving towards much more integrated architectures with higher requirements for computing power, memory, bandwidth, etc. Recent technological developments, such as generative AI, are reinforcing these needs, including for embedded systems. How can the European automotive industry manage this major transformation and do better than the telecoms industry did some 15 years ago?

Biographie :Katrin Matthes holds the position of Lead Software Technologist at Ampere (Renault Group). She is responsible for cross-functional technologies and for driving forward transformation through software. Katrin represents Ampere and the Renault Group in the Sherpa Group of the European SDV project: Shift2SDV. Before joining Renault, Katrin was Platform SW Lead Architect at Intel for the smartphone and tablet businesses on the consumer side and infotainment on the automotive side. Prior to Intel, Katrin worked for 17 years at Texas Instruments in various roles (software development, system architecture, management, etc.) in the mobile telephony sector. She holds a master's degree and double Franco-German diploma in Electrical Engineering & Telecommunications from the University of Karlsruhe (KIT) and the INPG (Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble).
