Energy challenges and sustainable solutions in high-performance computing and artificial intelligence
Chaired by Charles Huot, Development Manager, Eclairion and Victor Martin, Manager, R&D Digital Hub Paris-Saclay, TotalEnergies
Modular design of data centers for AI and HPC
By François Sabatino, Président, Eclairion
HPC and AI constantly consume enormous amounts of energy. This is one of the main components of the machine's operating cost (up to over 60% in some countries). Give an example of a TCO breakdown.
If we want to keep the same tiering concepts in HPC and AI, infrastructure capex will explode. How can we work with customers to find an acceptable compromise between redundancy management and environmental considerations?
Computing clusters for HPC and AI are becoming increasingly powerful, and this is having a huge impact on hosting center development strategies. New site selection strategies are being put in place to accelerate the provision of technical infrastructures capable of supporting this growth. (Take the Edf AMI, for example, or the choice of new Eclairion sites).
Not all AI production is mission-critical, and most of it is tolerant of interruption, making it possible to lower Tiering requirements.
