AI and HPC for Precision Medicine: Towards a Hospital Transformation
By Kevin Yauy, Medical geneticist, Doctor in machine learning, Montpellier University Hospital

Context

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) is revolutionizing precision medicine. At Montpellier University Hospital and the University of Montpellier, our work aims to harness these technologies to structure medical data, improve clinical decision support and optimize medical training to give time back to caregivers.

Methods and Innovations

Structuring clinical data: Development of algorithms based on generative AI to organize and make better use of healthcare data for care and research

Reliability of AI models: Methods for reducing bias and logical hallucinations, improving the accuracy and explicability of healthcare language models.

AI-assisted care: Development of a hospital assistant to assist with automated language processing tasks.

Precision and multi-omics medicine: AI models applied to genomic data to identify variants of clinical interest.

AI-enhanced medical training: the DocSimulator platform enables students to train with virtual patients and optimizes the assessment of clinical skills.

Results and prospects

Our work demonstrates the impact of AI and HPC technologies on the reliability of clinical analyses, the optimization of care pathways and the improvement of medical training. These innovations herald a more humane hospital and more personalized medicine.
